Location of Digambar Jain Bada Mandir:

This ancient Jain Temple is situated at a distance of 120 Km from Nagaur City in the ancient and historic town Ladnun, District Nagaur, Rajasthan.

History of Digambar Jain Bada Mandir:

This Temple is dedicated to Lord Shantinath, the 16th Tirthankar of Jains. This magnificent Temple was built in 1079 A.D. according to an inscription found on one of the doors of the Temple.

Architecture of Digambar Jain Bada Mandir:

The Temple is built 11 feet below plinth level. The pillars and the ceiling of the Temple are beautifully decorated. The beautiful marble idol of Lord Shantinath is installed in the main shrine. In front of the idol, there is a rare piece of artistic door placed on two marble pillars. On these pillars, two artful and rare images of goddess Sarswati are engraved. Another marble idol of Lord Ajitnath Ji, the 2nd Tirthankar of Jains is installed in another shrine. An inscription on it indicates that it was made in 1152 A.D. In front of the idol, there is a marble door with two pillars decorated with artistic Jaina images.

An art gallery is also located inside the Temple Complex. It houses several artistic and rare idols of Jain Thirthankaras which were recovered from this town during various excavations, beautiful images, engraved pillars, rare pieces of art and old Jain dharma manuscripts. A brown stone idol of Lord Rishabhdev (the 1st Tirthankar of Jains), two idols of Lord Parshavnath (the 23rd Tirthankar of Jains) with nine-headed serpents and a beautiful image of Lord Neminath (the 22nd Tirthankar of Jains) are placed here.
