Location of Ramathra Fort:

This Fort is situated between two of India’s Internationally famous Wildlife Reserves – Keoladeo Ghana Bird Sanctuary of Bharatpur and Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve of Sawai Madhopur at a distance of 15 Km from Kailadevi Wildlife Sanctury in District Karauli, Rajasthan.

History of Ramathra Fort:

This Fort has got its name from the belief that Lord Rama had once stopped here while on his way to Lanka to kill Demon Ravana during ‘Ramayana Period’. Ramathra was given to Thakur Bhoj Pal by his father who was the ruler of Karauli in the Year 1645 A.D.

Architecture of Ramathra Fort:

It is a strong battle Fort with very strong and wide perimeter wall having bastions at intervals. A multi-storied Palace is located inside the Fort. It is adorned with painted ceilings and stone lattice work.

Attractions of Ramathra Fort:

This Fort offers a breathtaking view of the Kalisil Lake and the rugged Daang Plateau. The Kalisil Lake was formed about 50 years ago when a Dam was constructed on the Kalisil River to provide water for irrigation to the farmers of the area. It is a big lake and spreads to over 17 km when filled to its capacity. It is an ideal place for bird watchers as ducks, cormorants, storks, sarus cranes, stilts, kingfishers and herons are regular visitors. Boating facility is available here. The adventurous people can go out to look for crocodile dens and crocodile sightings.

Visiting Hours in Ramathra Fort:

The Fort is owned by Thakur Brijendra Raj Pal, a descendant of the founder of the Fort and has been converted into a heritage hotel.
