Location of Udai Bilas Palace:

This Palace is located at a distance of 2 Km from Dungarpur Bus Stand in the Eastern part of the Dungarpur City, District Dungarpur, Rajasthan.

History & Architecture of Udai Bilas Palace:

It was built in the mid 19th Century A.D. by Maharawal Udai Singh II and is a fine example of the Rajput style of architecture. It has blue waters of Gaib Sagar Lake on one side and a private reserve forest on the other. It offers a scenic location for rest and recreation. It has a beautiful hall known as ‘Pareva’, built of local blueish grey stone and the ‘Ek Thambia Mahal’ having intricate sculptured pillars and panels, ornate balconies, balustrades, bracketed windows, arches and frieze of marble carvings. The Palace is decorated with fine murals, miniature paintings and stone carvings. In the year 1940 A.D., three new wings around the Ek Thambia Mahal were built by Maharawal Laxman Singh. These wings form the famous courtyard of the Palace.

Attractions near the Palace:

This Palace is a paradise for bird watchers. During Winters (November to March) and the Monsoon Season (July to Mid-September) Ergets, Herons, Coots, White-necked and painted Storks and Ducks can be seen here. The Grey Hornbill, Grey Partridge, Green Pigeon, Peafowl, Paradise fly-catcher and the Golden backed woodpecker etc. can be seen in the Forest area. On the way from Udai Bilas Palace to the Old Palace, Sarus Cranes and Wading Birds can be seen at marshes.
