Location of Talab E Shahi and Khanpur Mahal:

This picturesque Lake and Palace are located on Dholpur-Bari Road at a distance of 40 Km from Dholpur City and 2 Km from Bari town in District Dholpur, Rajasthan.

History & Attractions of Talab E Shahi and Khanpur Mahal:

Dholpur had abundance of natural beauty and dense forests which attracted Mughal Emperors who used to visit the area for shooting. The lake was got built as a shooting lodge for Prince Shahjahan in 1622 A.D. by Suleh Khan, a Mansabdar (a rank holder) of Mughal Emperor Jahangir. The pavilioned palace named Khanpur Mahal was built by Udai Bhan Singh, the then ruler of Dholpur. However, the palace was never occupied. Later on, both of these were maintained by rulers of Dholpur. The palace is currently being used as a Government rest house.

The lake houses various Species of fishes and snakes and attracts water-birds. White breasted water hen, Moor hen, Sand Piper, Grey and purple herons, Stilt, Ringed plover are commonly seen here. During Winters migratory birds like Pintail, Shoveller, Common pochard, Tufted duck, Red-crested pochard, Wigeon etc. visit here.
