This Gurdwara is situated on Agra-Gwalior Road in Machukund, District Dholpur, Rajasthan.
History of Gurdwara Shri Sher Shikar Sahib:
This holy place has been blessed by the visit of Sixth Sikh Guru, Shri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji on 4 March, 1612. While travelling towards Gwalior, Guru Ji with Mughal Emperor Jahangir arrived at Machukund and stayed at Village Bhamtipura. The headman of the area told Jahangir that a ferocious Lion lives in this area and asked him to save their lives by killing him. The Emperor Jahangir thought of getting Guru Ji killed by that Lion. When the Emperor along with his soldiers and Guru Ji reached the forest in search of Lion, the Lion suddenly attacked. The Emperor and his soldiers fired their guns and arrows, but all the shots missed Lion. The Lion charged towards Jahangir. The Emperor shouted for help. Guru Ji, immediately jumped from his horse and stood between the Lion and the Emperor. Guru Ji said to Lion :
“Ae Kaal Yaman Pehlan Tu Var Kar Le, Kidhre Tere Man Dee Ichha Baki Na Reh Jaye”
Meaning, Kaal Yaman (was a demon king of the time of Lord Krishna), first you attack me, So that the desire of attacking is not left in your mind. The Lion attacked Guru Ji with full force. Guru Ji with his left hand brought his shield in front of the lion and attacked at his back with his sword in his right hand. The Lion was killed in one motion. The Emperor realised that Guru Ji was very strong, spiritually as well as physically. After that incident, the Udasi Sadhus started to arrange Kirtan and Langar at this place. Later on, the Maharani of Dholpur constructed a Thada (a platform) and installed Shri Guru Granth Sahib here. During the visit of Sant Baba Thakur Singh, a small sword and kundals were unearthed here and the Gurdwara was constructed.
