Location of Kaylana Lake:
This artificial Lake is also known as Pratap Sagar and is located on Jodhpur-Jaisalmer State Highway No. 2 at a distance of 8 Km. West of Jodhpur City, District Jodhpur, Rajasthan.
History & Attractions of the Lake:
It was constructed in 1872 A.D. by Sir Pratap Singh, the then Prime Minister of Jodhpur and is spread over an area of 84 Sq. Km. Earlier this area had palaces and gardens made by two rulers of Jodhpur Maharaja Bhim Singh (1792-1803 A.D.) and Maharaja Takhat Singh (1843-1873 A.D.). These were destroyed to create the Kaylana lake. A Dak Bungalow of PHED, the Irrigation Department is located near the Lake. The boating facilities have also been made available for tourists here. It is an ideal place to relax and enjoy picnics.
