Location of Todaraisingh:

This ancient town having archaeological importance is located at a distance of 60 Km West of Tonk City and 40 Km North of town Deoli in District Tonk, Rajasthan.

History of the Town:

This picturesque town is surrounded by hills and was earlier known as Takshakagadha or Takshakpur or Todapattan or Ishtikapur. It was founded by Nagas in the 4th Century A.D. It remained at different times in occupation of Yuhilas of Chatsu, Chauhans of Ajmer and Solanki Rajputs. It was ruled by Rai Singh Sisodia, a famous Mansabdar during the rule of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan and hence is named after him. An excavated inscription dating back to 1169 A.D. describes that Todaraisingh was an important center of Jainism.

Attractions in the Town:

The places of tourist attraction in and around the town are Hadi Rani Ki Baori (a step well), Palace of Raja Rai Singh, Isar Baori and ancient Temples like Raghorai Ji Temple, Gopinath Ji Temple, Govinddeo Ji Temple, Jaldevi Temple and Temple of Lord Adinath.
