Location of Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary:

This Wildlife Sanctuary is located at a distance of 100 Km from Udaipur City with its major part being in District Rajsamand and some parts spreading into Pali and Udaipur Districts of Rajasthan.

History & Attractions of Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary:

It surrounds Kumbhalgarh Fort and is named after it. It is spread over an area of 578 Sq. Km. and lies in the most rugged of the Aravalli ranges at an altitude of 500 to 1300 meters. It is habitat to a rich variety of wildlife including some highly endangered species. The animals found here include Wolf, Leopards, Sloth Bear, Hyena, Jackal, Jungle Cat, Sambhar, Nilgai, Chausingha (the Four-horned Antelope), Chinkara and Hare. The bird life includes Peacocks, Doves, the Red-spur Owls, Parakeets, Golden Oriole, Grey Pigeons, Bulbul, White-breasted Kingfisher and normally shy and untrusted Grey Jungle Fowl.

Muchhal Mahavir Temple – The ancient Muchhal Mahavir Temple is situated in the Kumbhalgarh Sanctuary and is at a distance of 5 Km from town Ghanerao. Its distinctive feature is the statue of Lord Mahavira (the 24th Jain Tirthankar) with a moustache. The two statues of elephants guarding the gateways are splendid examples of Temple decoration. The Garasia tribal villages which are famous for their colorful costumes are also located nearby.
