Location of Kalibangan Archaeological Site:
This Archaeological Site is located at a distance of 5 Km from Pilibanga Railway Station in Kalibanga town which is located on the Southern Banks of River Ghaggar in Tehsil Pilibanga, District Hanumangarh, Rajasthan.
History of Kalibangan Archaeological Site:
This Site was discovered by Amlanand Ghosh, the Director-General of the Archaeological Survey of India.
Attractions of Kalibangan Archaeological Site:
It is a part of the 5000 years old Indus Valley Civilization. The remnants of the Pre-Harappan (3500 BC-2500 BC) and Harappan (2500 BC-1750 BC) settlements have been found at this place. The excavations have revealed the well-developed life style of our ancestors. It has been revealed that Rajasthan had been an important centre of the ceramic industry. The paintings on the ancient Pottery recovered from here resemble with the Harappan designs. It means the Potters of Rajasthan were well aware of the Indus Valley ceramic handicrafts industry.
The excavations at the site have revealed human skeletons, stamps, seals, unknown scripts, beads, bangles of copper, shell and terracotta, coins, utensils, toys, wheels, toy carts, statues, Jewellary, remains of wells, markets, graves, bathrooms, a fort and streets. An earliest ploughed field dating back to 2800 BC has been revealed here. The Site also shows that an earthquake occurred here in 2600 BC, which ended the Pre-Harappan Civilization. It is the earliest archaeologically recorded earthquake.
