MAT Pattern : Pattern of MAT Paper Based Test (PBT), Pattern of MAT Computer Based Test (CBT), General Instructions for MAT.
MAT Pattern :
- The candidate can take MAT as Paper Based Test (PBT) OR Computer Based Test (CBT) OR Both PBT & CBT (by paying an extra fees). The candidates opting for both PBT and CBT have the benefit of selecting additional 2 Management Institutions for sending their scores in addition to existing option of selecting 5 Management Institutions, i.e., they can select 7 Management Institutions in total.
- The PBT is conducted on the first Sunday of February, May, September and December from 10.00 A.M. to 12.30 P.M., whereas the CBT is conducted from subsequent Sunday onwards & in different Time slots.
- If the number of candidates registered for CBT at any city is limited, these candidates are permitted to appear for the PBT.
- MAT is an objective type test with multiple-choice answers designed and developed to ascertain the aptitude of the candidate to undergo Post Graduate Program in Management.
- It has five Sections (Language Comprehension, Mathematical Skills, Data Analysis & Sufficiency, Intelligence & Critical Reasoning, Indian and Global Environment), with each section having 40 questions.
- All the 200 questions are compulsory with each question having four options marked (1), (2), (3) and (4).
- All the questions carry equal marks and there is negative marking for wrong answers.
- All the Questions and Instructions of the Test are in English only. The duration of the MAT Test is 2 hours 30 minutes.
Note : In general, the preparation standard expected is that of a Graduate from an Indian University having completed 10+2+3 pattern of education. However, the knowledge level required for attempting the Section on Mathematical Skills is that of 10th standard under the Central Board of Secondary Education.
Pattern of MAT Paper Based Test (PBT) :
- The Paper Based Test is held on a single day for all the registered candidates.
- The candidate is provided a sealed Question Booklet and an OMR Answer Sheet. He/She can open the Question Booklet, only when the announcement to do so is made. Fill the necessary information in the space provided on the cover of the Question Booklet and the Answer Sheet before commencement of the Test.
- The candidate has to sign the Attendance Sheet during the test duly endorsing the Question Booklet Series as given on the Question Booklet and other details. The candidate has to ensure that he/she accurately marks all Identification and Question Booklet Series.
- The Answers are to be marked on the Answer Sheet, which is provided separately. The candidate has to choose the correct option and darken the oval completely corresponding to (1), (2), (3) and (4) against the relevant question number. Use only Blue/Black Ball Point Pen to darken the oval for answering. Do not darken more than one oval against any question, as the scanner will not read the same correctly.
- No credit is given for the answers marked in the Question Booklets.
- Do not tear or bend or mutilate the Answer Sheet.
- Rough work, if any, is to be done on the Question Booklet only. No separate sheet is provided/ used for rough work.
- At the conclusion of the Test, the candidates have to hand over his/her Question Booklet and Answer Sheet to the invigilator.
- MAT Answer Sheet is scanned by machine and scores are computed.
Pattern of MAT Computer Based Test (CBT) :
- This Test is offered over a period of time in single/different time slots at specific test venues (subject to candidates’ registration) and the candidate can choose the center, the day and time of his/her convenience to take the Test.
- The Details like the candidate’s Name, Roll No., Form No. etc. are to be filled on the space provided on the Screen for test appearance.
- The Questions are presented on the Computer Monitor and the candidate has to submit the answers through the use of keyboard or mouse. Each computer is connected to a server, which prepares the Question Set and delivers it to the candidate on the computer.
- All questions are of Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) type. Each MCQ consists of a stem which may be in the form of a question or an incomplete statement and four options. The candidates must choose the correct or most appropriate answer by clicking on the button next to the answer.
- There is no time limit for individual parts of the Test. The candidate can go back and change any of his/ her answers among the 200 questions.
- The candidate can navigate freely through the Questions. The candidate can move between the Sections.
- At the conclusion of the Test, the candidate should follow the instruction of the invigilator in order to properly record/save his/her test work.
- The Blank sheets for rough work are provided, if required.
- In the rare and unlikely event of a technical failure during the Test, the candidate may be required to attempt the Test again.
General Instructions :
- The candidate has to report to the allotted Test Center at least 90 minutes before the scheduled commencement of the Test. No candidate is permitted entry into the Test Center after 9.30 A.M. under any circumstances.
- The Test room is opened about 60 minutes before the commencement of the Test. The candidate has to occupy his/her allotted place only.
- The candidate has to bring Duly completed Admit Card & Blue/Black Ball Point Pen to the Test Center.
- The Admit Card is verified during the Test. The upper half of the Admit Card is collected by the invigilator & the lower half is given to the candidate as proof of his/ her having appeared in the Test. The candidate has to ensure that the Admit Card is duly signed by him/her and the Test Invigilator.
- Calculator, Mobile, Electronic Gadgets etc. are not allowed inside the Test room.
- The candidate is allowed to leave the Test room after the completion of Test and only after permitted by the invigilator. If the candidate wishes to leave the room during the Test, he/she must have the invigilator’s permission.
